Our Story

The inspiration for The Trolinger Foundation stems from the man known mostly as “Coach” or Mr Trolinger. He always goes the extra mile even when there does not seem to be an extra mile anywhere in sight.

As former students and players of Coach we wanted to create something that would honor him in a way that was unique and would be a lasting testament to his generosity.

What a better way than to give College Scholarships to deserving young women and men graduating from high school and pursuing their dreams.

In the spirit of Coach, this foundation will give back to a program that is very dear to him.

Meet the Team

Mike Burlison

Mike Burlison serves as the Treasurer of The Trolinger Foundation. Mike played on Coach Trolinger’s first golf team in 1981.
Mike spent 10 years with Albertsons from a bagger to Store Manager.
In 1994 Mike started Alarmtech Security Systems in Vacaville and is currently the CFO.
In 2008 Mike and his wife purchased the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory Franchise in Vacaville. He and his wife continue to run that store.
In his spare time, he enjoys golf, bowling and traveling. He is optimistic that the Trolinger Foundation will turn into a great scholarship opportunity for High School golfers for many years to come.

Dennis Cooper

Dennis Cooper is grateful to serve as Secretary on the Board of Directors for The Trolinger Foundation. Dennis was first coached by Mr. Trolinger as an 8th grader at Will C. Wood Junior High in football. Once at Vacaville HS Dennis pursued golf and was able to be reunited with Coach again. Those three years playing golf under Coach were very memorable for Dennis as not only was he taught about golf but also about life. Mr. Trolinger made a great impression upon Dennis on how you conduct yourself on the golf course and more importantly as a human being. Lessons that he has never forgotten.
Dennis has been in the Logistics & Transportation business for 30+ years and currently works as a Corp Account Manager.
Dennis has been married for 21 years to Torri and has three children and two grandchildren.
He enjoys his family and friends as well as a round of golf anytime he can get away.
Working on this foundation has been one of the most meaningful things he has ever participated in.

Nick Garrison

Nick Garrison proudly serves as the President of The Trolinger Foundation. He is a lifelong resident of Vacaville and was introduced to the game of golf by his dad, Bill. During the summer of 1991 Nick attended a golf camp hosted by Don “Coach” Trolinger. After the first session Coach requested that he return the following week for a second session even though it was full. After the second session Coach recommended to Bill that he enroll Nick in the AT&T Junior Golf Association. He continued to play golf along with other sports and in high school was reunited with Coach where he played four years on the varsity team. The passion and enjoyment for the game of golf cultivated by Coach helped propel Nick into a career in the golf business with aspirations of becoming a head golf professional as well as inspiring other young golfers in the same manner he was. In his spare time Nick enjoys spending time with his family, playing golf, and being a very amateur jack of all trades.

Byron Cone

Byron serves as the Vice President of The Trolinger Foundation. Byron served many positions in the golf industry from assistant golf professional to general manager in Northern California and Las Vegas. For four years he served as an Investment Adviser for Ameriprise Financial in Minneapolis, Minnesota. In 2016 Byron returned back to Northern California and his hometown of Vacaville where he works in the Purchasing Department for CarMax in Fairfield.
In his free time he enjoys, golfing (of course), snowboarding and cooking. He is enjoying being part of the startup of The Trolinger Foundation and looks forward to its growth in the years to come.

Katie was first introduced to the game of golf by her father, Dave, at the age of 10 and was a member of Coach Trolinger's girls varsity golf team at Will C. Wood High School from 2011-2014. Katie also reunited with Coach and Will C. Wood in 2017, where she teamed up with him as an assistant coach. Katie credits Coach and his profound dedication to golf as an inspiration to her, and says that the lessons she learned on his team have carried her not only through golf, but through life as well.

Katie graduated from Arizona State University in 2018 and is a credentialed sports reporter and journalist. She most previously served as an associate reporter for the San Diego Padres for MLB.com.
